How to migrate your vape store from Shopify to WooCommerce

A practical 2026 playbook for moving a vape, kratom or CBD store to a platform you own — without losing data, customers or your Google rankings.

Before you start: export everything today

Whether or not you've received a notice, export your data while you still have full admin access. A frozen Shopify account makes clean exports much harder. Once your CSVs and theme are saved locally, you have options.

The 7 steps

Step 1: Export your Shopify data now

From Shopify admin, export Products, Customers and Orders as CSV and download your theme. Do this immediately, even before you've picked a host.

Step 2: Set up WordPress hosting and WooCommerce

Choose quality managed hosting, install WordPress, add an SSL certificate, then install and configure the WooCommerce plugin.

Step 3: Import your catalog and customers

Import products, variants, images, collections, customers and order history using WooCommerce's importer or a migration tool, checking field mapping against your originals.

Step 4: Rebuild design, navigation and key pages

Recreate your theme, menus, collection structure and custom pages so the new store looks and works like the one customers already know.

Step 5: Connect a high-risk payment gateway

Apply for a high-risk merchant account (not Stripe/PayPal) and integrate it, plus add an age-verification gate and PACT-Act-compliant shipping rules.

Step 6: Build a complete 301 redirect map

Map every old Shopify URL (/products/, /collections/, pages, blog posts) to its new WooCommerce URL with 301 redirects so rankings and links carry over.

Step 7: Test, launch and submit to Google

Test checkout end-to-end, point your domain/DNS, update Google Search Console and submit your new sitemap, then monitor analytics and uptime.

The part that protects your traffic: 301 redirects

This is where most cheap migrations fail. Shopify uses predictable URL patterns (for example /products/… and /collections/…), and WooCommerce uses its own. If old URLs 404 after launch, you lose the rankings and backlinks you've built. A complete 301 redirect map — every product, collection, page and blog post pointing to its new home — tells Google the content moved, so equity transfers. Keep the same titles, meta descriptions and image alt text where you can, and submit a fresh sitemap.

Payments and compliance you can't skip

WooCommerce itself won't stop you selling vape, but its default payment option (WooCommerce Payments, Stripe-powered) will — so you need a high-risk merchant account from a processor that approves nicotine/CBD. Start underwriting early. Add an age-verification gate at checkout, and make sure shipping follows the PACT Act (no USPS for vape; use private carriers with adult signature and proper labeling).

Common mistakes to avoid

How long it takes — and DIY vs done-for-you

A focused migration typically runs about 5–10 days. Doing it yourself is possible if you're technical and your store is simple, but for most owners — especially under a deadline — the risk to data, payments and SEO outweighs the savings. If you'd rather not gamble your storefront, we handle the entire migration end-to-end with a written zero-data-loss guarantee.

General information, not legal or financial advice. Platform, processor and shipping rules change and vary by region — verify current requirements and consult qualified counsel before selling regulated products.
